Let’s see, where to start. Still recovering from the jet lag, but I think I’m over the worst part (cross fingers). I don’t remember my last trip being this bad, maybe the longer stay really made the difference. This post will be a bit heavier on the text (sorry!), just want to add a few thoughts while the trip is fresh. I’ll get to the pics shortly!
The planning. Everything went pretty well, no delays in flights or anything. After hearing from a travel doctor just how bad some mosquito spread diseases like malaria are, I was expecting more mosquitos. Lembeh had a pretty consistent breeze, so throughout the trip I only noticed a few bug bites.
The people. Throughout the whole trip, I don’t think I met or had any interaction that I would consider rude. Very friendly, from people at the airport, drivers wanting to practice some English, to the staff at the resorts, extremely welcoming all around. Not just the locals, but the expats and fellow guests as well.
The diving. I could really dive Lembeh every day for a really, really long time. Side note, bringing a heavier wet suit or an added vest next time. The other side of the island however, sooooooo warm. 86 at depth, with just a handful of thermos (which actually felt nice in my 3mm). Bunaken was a very good contrast to Lembeh.
Conclusion. Absolutely will be back at some point. If I split time between Lembeh and the other side, I’ll always lean more toward Lembeh, maybe 70/30 or so.
Finally, here’s some pics! I’ll probably be editing and sorting for the next month or more, so I’ll post an updated gallery later.
